Why the Atlas figure?
In Ancient Greek mythology, Atlas was one of the Titans, who ruled the universe before the Gods. A war broke out between the Gods and Titans, and the Titans were defeated. As punishment, Atlas was sentenced to hold up the world for all eternity.
